The celebrated Leonardo da Vinci soared ahead in the popularity stakes, and no wonder. Alive in Italy during the High Renaissance, da Vinci was a polymath, scientist, mathematician, engineer, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer. As an artist, da Vinci created many iconic works of art that are much revered today, including the Mona Lisa, and he was also way ahead of his time, inventing prototypes for contraptions such as flying machines.
You voted Albert Einstein and his Theory of Relativity into second spot, and [ahem], both Copernicus and Tesla combined couldn’t beat Chuck Berry! (Poll trainspotters will remember Chuck’s appearance in the week’s previous poll, hence the cheeky reference).

- In 2005, Stephen Hawking was asked to explain why the question “What came before the Big bang” was meaningless. In response, he asked “What lies north of the North Pole?”
- None of Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings are signed.
- Sir Isaac Newton was also a member of the English Parliament from 1689 to 1701, but his only recorded comments were to complain about a cold draft in the chamber and request that the window be closed.
- After his death, Newton’s body was found to have had massive amounts of mercury in it, probably as a result of his alchemical experiments. Mercury poisoning could also perhaps explain his increasingly eccentric behaviour later in life.
- Sir Thomas Edison’s last breath is reportedly contained in a test tube at the Henry Ford Museum!

The results were close in the St. Patrick’s Day poll with Liam Neeson just beating fellow actor Colin Farrell for the top spot. Poor Bob Geldof fared worst of all; a paltry 8% of YouPlayers chose to be stuck in a lift with the ol’ Boomtown Rat.

The delicious Easter poll sparked much drooling and a flurry of debate on the forums with members discussing their favourite chocolate treats and posting some fantastic recipes. Once again, the results were quite evenly spread across the field (spread with smooth caramel perhaps?) The often divisive Turkish Delight slithered rosily into second place (a dark horse, I think), closely followed by Smarties, Honeycomb and Rocky Road. Tying for last place were Liquorice and Jelly Beans, which to me is perfectly understandable. For those who are interested, I voted for Mint Chips, a flavour that ended up rating quite poorly indeed. Oh well, more for me.
On that note, I’m off to eat some chocol – I mean, do some work!

I just noticed Chuck Berry's name in the favourite genius poll results. Am I mistaken, but I thought he was in the favourite berry poll?

I was delighted to see how admired & revered the great Leonardo da Vinci was in the Poll. I have been fascinated by his art & inventions since I was about 8, would love to go the Europe & UK to see his works. I voted for Bono in the Irish poll, but as mentioned in a previous post Colin Farrell gets my vote for eye candy. Unfortunately I was one of those with no Sumbit Button, would have voted for Mint Chips. I was able to make up for not being able to vote by participating in the various Forums that cropped up as a result of the submit button problem. I'd like to see another Sports Poll, in the last one football was given as a generic choice - it Would be interesting to see one that lists the various codes. Maybe some literature polls such as favourite classic, book that had an influence on like, favourite of the current best sellers etc.
